Chic Wedding Cake Buffet by Butterfly Bakeshop

Butterfly Bakeshop in New York City is full of fabulous ideas on incorporating cake into your wedding day.  One of these amazing ideas it to create a chic cake buffet.  Stacey of Butterfly Bakeshop explains:

CAKE.  The pinnacle of every celebration.  But, do you know what is better than one cake? Lot’s of cakes!  Thus, the Cake Buffet was born.  For a wedding the idea is to take your traditional wedding cake, place it prominently in the center of a buffet table and build around it with several cakes in a variety of styles, flavors and fillings. This is an eye catching and interactive way for you and your guests to indulge.   Here are some tips to consider when planning your wedding’s Cake Buffet:

There are two schools of thought when designing your cake buffet:

  • One is to create the cake table around a specific theme or color. This approach is monochromatic and can be used in many weddings styles; traditional, modern, country etc.  Choose a color that matches your flowers or other elements in your decor then have each cake decorated with those color accents.  Another option is to have specific patterns that appear throughout your wedding incorporated into the cake designs.  For example lace from your dress or patterns from the venues interior.  This buffet pulls everything together.
  • For a more impulsive and whimsical Cake Buffet use a mixture of colors, designs and styles.  This diversity gives the table a more “Shabby Chic” look.

Whichever style you decide to use have your caterer provide cake stands and/or risers in a number of heights to display the cakes.  This adds interest and eye appeal to the buffet. Small, elegant cards describing each cake flavor will help guests to decide what choices to make. Your venue should provide servers to assist your guests.  One of each cake should be used for the buffet display while the rest of the cakes are cut in the kitchen ready to serve.   The staff will place pieces on guest’s plates, this keeps the buffet neat, clean and looking pretty throughout service. Request that the the cake pieces are cut rather small so that everyone feels comfortable trying several options.  Ask your Cake Consultant for assistance to order the right amount of each cake for your party.

Beautiful cakes in your favorite flavors and styles is a great way to conclude a fabulous celebration!

Elude The Clouds : A Journey of personal creation by Stacy Doolan MUA

I love to showcase the beautiful work created by the talented vendors featured here on VeilTV.  I know that most of our readers expect to read and see wedding inspired blogs, especially here, but I also like everyone to see the other creative side of our vendors.  Many of them work on other commissions that are not necessarily wedding related but definitely inspire and guide a great deal of their work in the industry.  It is what keep these companies current and energized to create new ideas for their wedding couples.

Here is a story of a journey of personal creation by one of our talented Makeup artists featured here on VeilTV NYC / Long Island, Stacy Doolan MUA. I will let her explain in her own words:

Since the start of the year I have been on a personal mission. An evolution if you will. This journey into my own personal creativity and my inner soul searching has lead me to many new avenues of my art. They say when you have gotten to the point where you have nothing left to learn, you should hang up your brushes and call it quits.. well, as you all know I am far from a quitter… With that in mind, I had decided to become more vocal, ask more questions and to really come out of my “safe shell” I call my cozy little world of bridal. Do not get me wrong, I adore my brides and do not plan to give them up, so I am sorry to the other MUA’s vying for the veil lol. Just plan on seeing another side of my artistry as the year goes on.

In my vocal journey I was challenged by someone I admire dearly in my industry to create a submission for what I consider the Holy Grail of Publications in my world, On Makeup Magazine. For those of you unfamiliar, it is the “artists magazine”.  Meaning, my peers are the #1 subscriber , eek!! Had I seen the post and deadline for this submission in the past? Of course.. Had I ever considered submitting? NEVER!! Why would I ? It is not what I do right? Its not bridal, or boudoir.  Yet, when faced with the call out, I decided with less than 2 weeks to pull it all together, YES.. I accept the challenge… and if I am meant to fail miserably , so be it.. but at least I can say I tried.

With the help of some friends, I was introduced to Brian Joseph,an amazing photographer who , knowing he would be under an intense time crunch accepted  the role of co pilot. I have worked with Toni B (TB Hair) on hair and knew her editorial work kicked butt, and could trust her to read between my nerves and create along side me . Next up, Sandy. You remember Sandy right?? Best stinking assistant in the world!!! We were off and running.. with just one piece left of the puzzle… the face..

Years ago I had the pleasure of working with a talented actress named Jennifer Waite. If you do not know the name, you may want to write it down.. I knew she had modeling experience , you probably do not even realize it, but you have seen her before too.. the next time you are in Sephora, take a peak at the Make Up For Ever shadows…Those piercing eyes starring back at you.. those are Jens.. and they are the exact eyes I needed to tell my story. ..

Oh no….MY STORY!!!! What the heck was MY STORY?????!!!!!! After all, that was what this whole thing was about!!! So here is how that played out.. I walked into Micheal’s craft store.. looked around, grabbed a bunch of crap and carried it around for the next week..arrived on set the day of the shoot, looked at everyone..put all the crap I had bought to the side and just let my hands work.. I am not going to lie, I had no idea where they would lead me , but I trusted them… I stopped the inner panic, and I trusted the two things that had gotten me this far, my hands and my eyes.. without my realizing,  they started to do, well what they do… 4 Makeup and hair changes later and we had done it..

What exactly had we done? Well, we had created over 200 pics that within 24 hours turned into OUR STORY.

I Named “her” (yes it is a she) Elude The Clouds .. what does it mean? Well, that is for you to decide.. I know what she means to me..  and no, we did not win the coveted spot in the magazine , but the minute I put my brushes down after that final camera click, I had completely forgotten about the mag anyway.. I had been forever changed!

Celebration Sessions by Nick & Deb Photographers

Many of us commission a professional photographer to capture a major milestone in our lives. The main two events that we normally do hire a photographer for is to capture our wedding and newborn photos of our children.

I was very excited to see that Nick & Deb Photographers are offering a wonderful new service called Celebration Sessions.  These hand crafted, personal photography sessions are to commemorate any special milestone in your life. Perhaps your celebrating your 10th wedding anniversary or your 30th birthday, or  your’ve just scored that huge promotion at work.  Maybe you’ve just bought your first house. There are a million reasons to celebrate and wouldn’t it be wonderful to have them photographed.

Nick and Deb are not only amazing photographers, they are an amazing couple who really enjoy hearing and telling stories.  I think this is why these sessions are more then just photographs, you can truly hear each individual story behind each image.

Here is a peek at some some celebrations they captured recently
