I love to showcase the beautiful work created by the talented vendors featured here on VeilTV. I know that most of our readers expect to read and see wedding inspired blogs, especially here, but I also like everyone to see the other creative side of our vendors. Many of them work on other commissions that are not necessarily wedding related but definitely inspire and guide a great deal of their work in the industry. It is what keep these companies current and energized to create new ideas for their wedding couples.
Here is a story of a journey of personal creation by one of our talented Makeup artists featured here on VeilTV NYC / Long Island, Stacy Doolan MUA. I will let her explain in her own words:
Since the start of the year I have been on a personal mission. An evolution if you will. This journey into my own personal creativity and my inner soul searching has lead me to many new avenues of my art. They say when you have gotten to the point where you have nothing left to learn, you should hang up your brushes and call it quits.. well, as you all know I am far from a quitter… With that in mind, I had decided to become more vocal, ask more questions and to really come out of my “safe shell” I call my cozy little world of bridal. Do not get me wrong, I adore my brides and do not plan to give them up, so I am sorry to the other MUA’s vying for the veil lol. Just plan on seeing another side of my artistry as the year goes on.
In my vocal journey I was challenged by someone I admire dearly in my industry to create a submission for what I consider the Holy Grail of Publications in my world, On Makeup Magazine. For those of you unfamiliar, it is the “artists magazine”. Meaning, my peers are the #1 subscriber , eek!! Had I seen the post and deadline for this submission in the past? Of course.. Had I ever considered submitting? NEVER!! Why would I ? It is not what I do right? Its not bridal, or boudoir. Yet, when faced with the call out, I decided with less than 2 weeks to pull it all together, YES.. I accept the challenge… and if I am meant to fail miserably , so be it.. but at least I can say I tried.
With the help of some friends, I was introduced to Brian Joseph,an amazing photographer who , knowing he would be under an intense time crunch accepted the role of co pilot. I have worked with Toni B (TB Hair) on hair and knew her editorial work kicked butt, and could trust her to read between my nerves and create along side me . Next up, Sandy. You remember Sandy right?? Best stinking assistant in the world!!! We were off and running.. with just one piece left of the puzzle… the face..
Years ago I had the pleasure of working with a talented actress named Jennifer Waite. If you do not know the name, you may want to write it down.. I knew she had modeling experience , you probably do not even realize it, but you have seen her before too.. the next time you are in Sephora, take a peak at the Make Up For Ever shadows…Those piercing eyes starring back at you.. those are Jens.. and they are the exact eyes I needed to tell my story. ..
Oh no….MY STORY!!!! What the heck was MY STORY?????!!!!!! After all, that was what this whole thing was about!!! So here is how that played out.. I walked into Micheal’s craft store.. looked around, grabbed a bunch of crap and carried it around for the next week..arrived on set the day of the shoot, looked at everyone..put all the crap I had bought to the side and just let my hands work.. I am not going to lie, I had no idea where they would lead me , but I trusted them… I stopped the inner panic, and I trusted the two things that had gotten me this far, my hands and my eyes.. without my realizing, they started to do, well what they do… 4 Makeup and hair changes later and we had done it..
What exactly had we done? Well, we had created over 200 pics that within 24 hours turned into OUR STORY.
I Named “her” (yes it is a she) Elude The Clouds .. what does it mean? Well, that is for you to decide.. I know what she means to me.. and no, we did not win the coveted spot in the magazine , but the minute I put my brushes down after that final camera click, I had completely forgotten about the mag anyway.. I had been forever changed!
